We know how important it is to be able to speak at least two languages nowadays. Of course, the more languages you know the better. However, when it comes to choosing one language, we tend to be ‘afraid’ of those that are too different from our mother tongue. By ‘different’ we specifically mean ‘different origin’ or ‘another writing system’. Little do we know that by learning a language that is so different, and that no one “dares” to learn, we are at a great advantage. In economics, when there is a high demand for a product or service that is scarce, the price offered is higher. Well, if you are able to speak Chinese or Arabic and you live in a country where the local language has a Latin origin, for example, you will have plenty of job opportunities. When taking Arabic lessons Chicago people know that they will be highly regarded by companies and employers. Besides, it is widely known that the Middle East has a crucial influence in the world nowadays. Countries and peoples need to be united now, more than ever.
“I’d like to find new ways to connect young Americans to young people all around the world, by supporting opportunities to learn new languages, and serve and study…. That’s always been a critical part of how America engages the world…. Simple exchanges can break down walls between us…. When that happens mistrust begins to fade and our smaller differences no longer overshadow the things that we share. And that’s where progress begins.”
President Barack Obama at a Student Roundtable, Tophane Cultural Center, Istanbul, Turkey, April 7, 2009.
A recent BBC World Service Poll of 22 countries found that China is seen as playing a materially more positive role in the world that the US or Russia. It is thought that China will continue to increase its economic power in the world. A fact is that about 1.4 billion Chinese people live in this world. In other world, one fifth of the world’s population lives in China. It is not surprising that when taking Chinese classes Vancouver people know that they are making a great decision. Even though some people think that learning Chinese is impossible or too hard to give it a try, the truth is that once you feel comfortable with its writing system and tones, the Chinese grammar is quite simple and logical.
