How to distinguish “第” and “弟” in Chinese

Students always confused “第” and “弟” because of the same pronunciation. But the meaning of those two Chinese words is totally different.
“第” is often used for “1st”,”2nd”,etc. For instance ：”第十” means 10th number .
“弟” or “弟弟” means younger brother .
